How to Build a Wood Burning Sauna Stove
When you learn how to build a wood burning sauna stove, you can make it as small or as large as you desire. The size of your sauna will determine how large or small your stove should be. For a room about eight feet by nine feet, a small stove will be sufficient. For a room around ten feet by nine feet, you will need a medium stove. If you want a larger sauna, then you will need a large one.
When you learn how to build a wood burning sauna stove, it is important to purchase seasoned firewood. This is wood that has been dried for a season. In the fall, it is best to use seasoned wood. In the early spring or summer, it is best to use green wood, which should be fully dried before being used. If you want to make your sauna even more authentic, you can also buy special stones for it. Granite and other stones are too heavy and light to keep a heat-retaining fire, so you will want to purchase your own.
You will need a wooden platform, a base, staves, and an end piece. For your sauna, you will also need a bench and a porch. You will need to assemble the whole thing, including placing the rocks on top of the fire. Adding a rock basket to the back of the sauna will act as a heat shield and extra source of steam. You will be able to use this heater for as long as you like, and it will be a beautiful addition to your sauna.
Once you have the sauna set up, the next step is choosing the wood for your sauna. The wood should be seasoned for a season. It is best to use this in the spring or fall. Green wood is fresh from the forest and should be dried to about twenty percent moisture content before being used in your sauna. When you have finished the wooden stove, you should put it together and test it. Check the exhaust and venting and invite friends to come for a session. You should be able to feel the burn, but if it is too hot, you can opt for a wood pellet or electric stove.
The first step in building a sauna is to get the wood. You will need firewood that has been seasoned for at least a season. This is typically found in the fall and early summer. You can also use green wood, but make sure it is dried to about 20 percent before using it. The next step is selecting the stones for the sauna. You can buy these stones, but you can use granite or limestone.
